Wild and 'One'derful

My son turned ONE this past weekend (OMGGGGG, the emotions!)! What better way to celebrate AND share some skills for Little Bird Design than to throw an over-the-top, handcrafted first birthday party?! I have worked for months in my spare time creating and crafting and collecting for this party, but it was very worthwhile and the whole celebration was perfect -- thanks to family and friends above all, of course!

The theme for this party began with a swatch of fabric featuring Mickey Mouse and his friends on an adventure with camping supplies with bright, bold colors. My son gravitated toward this material because of Mickey and friends in part, but I felt the aesthetic of the party come to life through the color palette in this design. I imagined giant balloons, big pops of blue, red, orange, yellow, and green, and vibrant camping accessories alongside Mickey, Goofy, Donald, Pluto, and Chip & Dale. Joyce was quick to encourage the use of Mickey, but I tried to edit this theme toward a specific 2000's Mickey or the simplified tri-circle shape instead of just any Mickey through the decades. This was quite the challenge considering this year is the celebration of Mickey's 90th birthday and his merchandise is EVERYWHERE.

Because the theme was based on a material and not a set from a party store, I handcrafted the majority of the decor, bought a few lanterns and camping supplies, and used the material throughout to tie the theme together. Joyce created a blanket and pillow out of the material to be used during the party and as keepsakes for our birthday boy!

I loved the results of the decor for this party! The aesthetic was bright and vibrant as I imagined. We pitched a tent in the front yard, created a scavenger hunt, and carabiner-ed camping gear to the staircase for the young party guests.

The snacks were pretty yummy, too! A special thank you to Bonnie Belle's bakery in Nutter Fort for the cake and perfect sugar cookies! (@bonniebellespastries ) And Joyce is responsible for all the other special snacks!

Most importantly, my son had a great day! He went to everyone to tour them around his house that had been turned into the perfect little explorer adventure -- pointing out Mickey and friends and sneaking snacks along the way.

I am honestly a bit lost now without our Mickey Adventure Party to plan, so send ideas this way for your very own handcrafted party by Little Bird Design!
